I
am a Focusing Practitioner and Teacher, accredited with the
British Focusing Teachers Association (BFTA), and a Focusing
Institute Trainer. I have a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education,
teaching adults.
I have facilitated personal development in others and myself
for 25 years, and practised Focusing for 11 years. I have lived
at the Findhorn Foundation, which is a spiritual community in
Scotland, and I am a certified facilitator of the Transformation
Game. Past experience includes dreamwork, gestalt, co-counselling,
transpersonal psychology and Reiki. My spiritual life is most
important to me, and Focusing supports my spiritual practice.
I teach Inner Relationship Focusing as a 5-weekend course, for
small groups. I also work one to one with people, either in
person, or on the phone. Where possible, locally, I encourage
a supportive Focusing community through peer practice groups
and partnerships.
My general approach to Focusing is as a life skill, to enable
people to gain an invaluable resource and support in their lives.
I also emphasise the benefits for people who are working with
others; practitioners of all kinds, parents, carers, teachers,
doctors, etc. I often feel in awe of this process, which enables
people to be with their deepest truth in that moment, and to
share the moment with an other person who is listening with
compassion and empathy.
I have taught circle dance and European traditional dance for
many years, and I am interested in combining movement and dance
with Focusing. I find that moving with awareness increases my
capacity for Presence and helps to loosen stuck places, and
deepen my creativity and sense of wholeness. For this reason,
I am also interested in Wholebody Focusing.

Workshops by Date and Location
for schedule of upcoming workshops. The following workshops
are offered periodically.
The BFTA Focusing Skills Certificate Course is divided
into 5 weekend parts. You can take the weekend courses one at
a time, joining the next course when it suits you, or you can
take the course as a whole. The course needs to be taken in
sequential order, as each part builds on the skills previously
learned. All courses are from 10am - 5pm, both days. In most
cases, you are responsible for your own food and accommodation
(B&B list can be supplied). Shared lunches can happen by arrangement.
A copy of the Focusing Student's and Companion's Manual
is given out with the Certificate Course, Part 1 on the first
weekend, and Part 2 on the third weekend.
Cost of weekends: £80 (£25 deposit)
Cost of the entire BFTA Certificate Course:
Option 1: £375 (£100 deposit) - save £25,
pay in installments.
Option 2: £350 (£100 deposit) - save £50 -
if full fee received at the beginning of the course.
The OCNSW Award in Focusing Skills accreditation fee: £25.50
(optional). These weekend courses are half price if you have
attended that weekend before. The day courses are £30.
Focusing Practitioner Programme
I offer a Practitioner Training, in conjunction with Barbara
McGavin in Bath. It is open to graduates of the Focusing Skills
Certificate Course, and is for people who want to continue to
develop their Focusing and Companioning skills, and to deepen
their practice.
A Focusing Practitioner has the ability to open up the world
of Focusing to someone who has never known it before. They represent
the entire field of Focusing, since they may be the only source
of someone's experience of Focusing. This is one of the reasons
why this training is worth a serious commitment of time, money
and personal transformation.
The Focusing Practitioner qualification from The British Focusing
Teachers' Association (BFTA) will enable you to offer Focusing
sessions professionally. Becoming a practitioner takes about
a year to 18 months. It is a flexible course, taking into account
prior learning and personal areas of interest. Acceptance on
the programme is by interview.
The Programme includes:
Repeating the BFTA Certificate course, with extra time
afterwards for feedback and questions.
3 specialist weekends with Barbara McGavin.
1 further course in Focusing in an area of special interest.
Regular practice of Focusing.
A practical project applying Focusing in an area of your
choice.
Self-directed study.
Written work.
Attending another teacher's course.
Practising with people new to Focusing.
Transformation Game Focusing Weekend Retreat
The Transformation Game captures the essence of the change process,
as it is experienced in your life situation, and puts it into
the delightful form of a board game. Mirroring life with accuracy,
the game moves to the heart of any issue, bringing insight,
clarity and resolution.
Playing the game can enable you to:
Clarify important personal issues and gain immediate
direction on your next steps.
Find new ways to enhance your relationships.
Recognise your personal contribution and abilities.
Transform your fears and challenges with fresh insight.
Discover a stress-free balance of work and play.
Deepen your understanding of yourself and others.
Receive love, inspiration and support on your life path.
The Transformation Game is a board game for 1-4 players. It
involves throwing a dice and moving along a life path where
you will experience a variety of situations. You will be invited
to Focus as you play, and to find the deeper wisdom that is
available to you through Focusing, allowing change to happen
naturally.
I am specifically trained as a Facilitator, to guide you through
your game and to help you gain the maximum benefit from playing.
Facilitators keep the game on track, facilitate interaction
with the other players, support you in focusing on your intention,
and contribute their insights.
In a shared situation, the game leads to a very supportive and
delightful group experience.
The Transformation Game retreats happen in my house in a beautiful
area on the edge of Dartmoor. Local accommodation can be arranged,
and there is an organic vegetarian retreat centre nearby.
You may wish to play alone, or you may wish to play with friends
or work colleagues. These can happen by arrangement. Single
day games are also available.
Moving Focusing: Focusing with Movement and Dance
Moving with awareness can be fun, insightful, soft, stretching,
opening, peaceful, loving, gentle, freeing, healing, powerful,
transformative, creative. Come and see what it does for you,
at a weekend that is held, expansive, compassionate, exploratory,
safe, shared. This weekend will be an exploration into several
different forms of movement and Focusing, ranging from very
subtle sensing and inner directed movement, to outward expressive
movement, and dance.
The influences include Kevin McEvenue's Wholebody Focusing,
which allows the whole body to be a powerful resource, and for
the body to find the movement it needs for its own healing.
Also, Healing Movement, which encourages bodily expression coming
from within, and involves awareness practices. With Circle Dance,
we will be exploring the profound effects of some of the most
ancient European village dances, and current English circle
dances, which can be uplifting, "hypnotic," ecstatic,
or peaceful. The emphasis will be on awareness as the basis
for inner transformation, healing and creativity.
The aim will be to create a supportive group atmosphere, where
participants can explore their inner world in trust and safety.
Paper and paint will be available for creative expression, poetry,
etc.
Focusing and Dreams
Dreams can provide us with a rich and fertile ground for self-exploration
and ongoing support. They contain the living complexity and
intricacy of your lived inner world, as it is experienced in
the present moment. Many contain wisdom, and bring gifts of
insight, resolution, and a "living forwards" direction.
Through dreamwork, you can explore current life issues, and
heal past pain. The workshop is based on the work of Ann Faraday's
Dreamwork, Patricia Garfield's Creative Dreaming,
Carl Jung, and Eugene Gendlin's Let Your Body Interpret Your
Dreams, and includes information on bias control. It is
also experiential. Bring your dreams, and use them as a creative
starting point for your Focusing.
Focusing "Play Day"
A relaxed day of supervised Focusing practice, with the opportunity
of asking questions, increasing your Focusing and Companioning
skills, and spending time listening to whatever needs your attention.
The format of the day will depend on participant's needs. Options
include Focusing in pairs, triads or the whole group, followed
by questions and feedback, and a demonstration of Companioning.
Bring your questions and whatever you would like to explore.
