 I am Laila Masjidi from Kabul, Afghanistan. I have a Bachelor's degree in physics from Kabul University.
I learned Focusing and Psychology/Sociology from Dr. Patricia Omidain and Mrs. Nina Adamson in 2002, while I was working with FEP/IRC Afghan Refugees Services in Peshawar Pakistan. I have developed my experience there working with many of the Afghan refugees who suffered from war, poverty, and living in the camps.
I have established many Focusing and Psychosocial workshops for school teachers, students, and refugees in Pakistan.
After my repatriation to my homeland Afghanistan, I started working as a Focusing and Psychosocial Senior Trainer with (AFSC) Quaker Service Afghanistan.
In addition, through the coordination of Dr. Patricia Omidian, Nina Joy Lawrence and Jerry Convey, I became certified from The Focusing Institute of New York in March 2006, and then I became an International Certifying Coordinator (ICC) for Afghanistan in 2007.
In my Focusing journey from 2005 until now, I have trained 650 students in Level One Focusing, among them 183 male and 467 female participants. We have 8 Focusing teachers who have already been certified from the Focusing institute of New York at AFSC Afghanistan. Now I am working as Master Trainer for Quaker Service Afghanistan. Under my leadership, last year 8 of my students were certified by The Focusing Institute of New York.
This year I have 8 new interns (4 male, 4 female) from the Psychology and Education Faculties of Kabul University who are taking their Psychosocial, Peace Building and Focusing Training in AFSC Quaker Service, Afghanistan.
The way we are doing Focusing in Afghanistan is really Inner Relationship Focusing. I learned from my 6 years of work experience in these fields that Focusing helps all human beings find a comfortable relationship with overwhelming feelings. This is of particular value to Afghan people who have been involved in the past two and a half decades of war and conflict. I present Inner Relationship Focusing as a great tool for people who are healing from physical and emotional illnesses.
