I
have taught classes and given individual sessions in body-mind
development for over 25 years now. I discovered Focusing several
years ago, and was astounded at how effective it was and how
much it added to my previous work. I was lucky enough to train
with Ann Weiser Cornell, and became a Certified Focusing Trainer
in 2002. In addition to giving Focusing sessions, I have now
fully incorporated Focusing into my Body, Breath & Being
program, which I have been developing for two decades.
Body, Breath & Being is a gentle form of the breath
and energy work developed by Wilhelm Reich, a disciple of Freud
who managed to combine eastern and western principles for healing
and growth. My work is always done in a respectful Inner Relationship
Focusing manner, conforming to Ann's principles of "the radical
acceptance of everything" and "only going as quickly as your
slowest part allows." I am also influenced by Buddhism, Feldenkrais
body awareness, chi gung and Dr. John Sarno's research on the
emotional causes of physical pain. I am currently training in
the Trauma Healing work of Peter Levine, which draws extensively
from both Focusing and Reichian work.
I hold a doctorate from the Yale School of Drama as well as
a Ph.D. in Psychology. I have taught at Tufts University
where I originally developed Body, Breath & Being as
an actor training, as well as Pomona College and the American
Academy of Dramatic Arts. My Reichian mentor, Al Bauman, worked
directly with Wilhelm Reich.
