  Barbara Culbertson

Biography,
Experience,
Specialties, & Orientation

Barbara CulbertsonTo me Focusing is this powerful tool that helps me live more vibrantly and fully. I love its simplicity, its nonjudgmental curiosity, its results. I love witnessing other people’s intimacy with themselves, their delight in their healing and their deep sense of wholeness that the Focusing process allows.

Since the mid-80s I have worked with people on emotional clarity issues, through peer counseling skills, as a mindfulness meditation and guided visualization instructor, through energy balancing bodywork and most recently through Focusing.  During my Focusing certification process I mentored with Ann Weiser Cornell and with Cathy Pascal. I assisted with the four levels of Ann’s phone classes and two levels, in person, of Cathy’s classes. I have taught weekly Focusing classes at the Duke University Diet and Fitness Center, provided community workshops and have regular Focusing phone clients.

My experience is with people recovering from trauma--both emotional and physical, people seeking spiritual and emotional clarity and people wishing to end those vicious cycles of destructive behaviors and thoughts.

For those interested in ancient healing techniques I can also guide you through soul retrieval ceremonies to help stabilize those significant Focusing sessions and introduce you to teachings that instruct us on living in our vastness.

Testimonials:
Individual Client: "My focusing session with Barbara gave me an effective way to respond to the messages my body sends me to overeat. Now I know how to listen and to hear what my body is really telling me and how to respond. I found the source of my craving. As if a curtain lifted, I saw how it could end the ‘war’ between my mind and my body."

Workshop participant: "Barbara created a safe and comfortable atmosphere that allowed everyone in the group  space to experience the work in their own time and at their own pace. She taught us centering and grounding techniques, was keenly aware of the needs of the group, encouraged open discussion, and seemed to give each individual the personal help and guidance they needed to successfully experience the work. Boundaries were respected, no one’s story or situation was ever divulged, and it was clear that many in the group had come a long way in their healing in just 2 days."
